About Senegal

Senegal can be visited at any time of the year. However, different seasons have different specificities that encourage different activities.

Dry season: The dry season (from November to May) is not by chance the main tourist season, as the weather is very pleasant during this period, with dry air and relatively high daytime temperatures. However, pleasant nighttime (and thus mornings and afternoons) temperatures allow for a variety of activities and travel. During this period, there is no rain at all and the temperatures on the coast are very pleasant, however, when you travel inland, it can still get very hot, but at least the air is dry. Many Europeans spend many months here during this period, avoiding the European winter, especially French and Belgian retirees, but more and more are joining.

Rainy season: During this period, the weather varies significantly in different parts of Senegal, while the north is drier and the south is significantly rainier. In the northern part, from Gambia northwards, the real rains only start in July, and May and June are still very favorable for visiting, basically even July, when the sea temperature already becomes very warm. It rains the most in August and the first half of September, but even then, in the northern regions, showers are mostly in the form of evening thunderstorms and it rarely rains continuously throughout the day. From the second half of September to the middle of November is the hottest period, when it is still very hot and humid both day and night. However, even then you can spend a pleasant stay by the sea and swim. Unfortunately doing any activities or traveling is very tiring. In any case, the local landscape is at its most beautiful during this period, as it turns beautifully green and is filled with vegetation.
